Languedoc, land of wines
The Domaine d'Hondrat, a family wine estate, is an integral part of the beautiful Occitanie region, in the heart of the Mediterranean.
Its terroir expresses itself just a stone's throw from the town of Sète. Thus, the vines are both rocked by the sea breeze and swept by the Tramontane coming from the land.
A family history
It was in 1891 that Basile VIGROUX initiated the history of the vine and wine in his family. Romain VIGROUX, is the current owner of the estate.
Five generations of winegrowers have succeeded one another to contribute to the richness of today's vineyard. Firmin, Jean, René, Michel, Jean-Marie and Roger have continued to develop the estate, taking it from 4 to 80 hectares today.
Since then, this love of the winegrowing profession has been passed on from father to son while evolving with the times, so that today we can offer quality products intended for a new generation of wine lovers.
Our philosophy
The vineyard
The Domaine d'Hondrat covers 80 hectares of vines in the communes of Mèze and Villeveyrac.
The most emblematic grape varieties of the Languedoc are proposed to you, as well as more atypical grape varieties for the region.
The wines' minerality comes from our clay-limestone and gravel soils, part of which is classified as A.O.P. Languedoc (Protected Designation of Origin).
Over the last 135 years, the Domaine d'HONDRAT has always been distinguished by the way it has managed its vineyards, through a constant search for innovation and technology; but without ever forgetting that wine is above all a matter of tradition, passion and high standards.
Concerned about the environment and the future of the next generations, Romain and Caroline are proud to be Terra Vitis and HVE 3 certified. The philosophy of the estate is to minimise intervention in the vineyards. The vines are planted with grass to encourage the development of fauna and flora, particularly micro-organisms, which are essential to the balance of the soil.
Winegrower, a passionate profession
15 years ago, the challenge was huge. Today, Romain and Caroline are happy with the progress they have made and are still working with the desire to surprise and please with their quality wines and unique visual identity.
On the technical side, Romain ensures that the vinification respects the original product that is the grape: controlled pressings, slow cold fermentations, in stainless steel vats, for fresh and fruity wines.
